MTCT: – Mother to Child Transmission
Mother to child transmission and it is abbreviated as MTCT. It is also referred to as vertical transmission, and it is responsible for the vast majority of new infections in children.
Prevention of mother to child transmission or PMTCT which is programs that provide Antiretroviral Treatment or ART to HIV positive pregnant ladies to prevent their babies from acquiring the infection. Without treatment, the probability of HIV increases as it goes from mother to child is 15% to 45%.
