The word ‘Computer’ derives itself from the Latin word “computare” meaning ‘to calculate’.
It is an electronic device that is programmable and accepts raw data as a form of input and, through a set of instructions, processes that raw data to produce an output in the form of a result. Right after performing logical and mathematical operations, it renders the output. The computer device also contains memory that stores the programs, data, and results of processing.
According to popular belief, the first computer was the Analytical Engine. Charles Babbage is considered unanimously the father of computers because it was him who developed the first computer (Analytical Engine) in 1837.
Keeping the data handling capabilities as the base, computers are divided into three types:
- Digital computer
- Analogue computer
- Hybrid computer
