MLC – Member of Legislative Council
Each and every member of the Legislative Council (MLC) serves the period of a six-year term, with terms staggered so the terms of 33% of total membership of a council which expires after every two years or at regular intervals. This plan or system parallels that for the Rajya Sabha which is also known as the upper house of the Parliament of India. There are few terms and condition which an individual must fulfill that for becoming the member of Legislative Council such as MLC should be the citizen of India. He must be 30 years old or more than that. He needs to be mentally sound and not an insolvent. He must on the list of voters of the state for which he or she is taking part in an election. In individual should not be a Member of Parliament at the same time. The number of member of the Vidhan Parishad should not be more than one-third of the membership of the Vidhan Sabha.
