POTA:- Prevention of Terrorism Act

The full form of POTA stands for Prevention of Terrorism Act. The main aim of the Prevention of Terrorism Act was to bring down the act of terrorism and let the place sleep in peace. The Prevention of Terrorism Act was a series of Acts of the Parliament of the United Kingdom from 1974 to 1989 that conferred emergency upon police forces where they suspected terrorism. The Prevention of Violence Act was allowed to expire in 1953 and was repealed in 1973 to be reintroduced under the Prevention Of Terrorism Act (temporary provisions) 1973. The territorial extent of the Prevention of Terrorism Act is the United Kingdom. The direct ancestor of the Prevention of Terrorism Act was the Prevention of Violence Act 1939 (temporary provisions) which was brought into law in response to an Irish Republican Army (IRA) campaign of violence under the S-plan. The Prevention of Terrorism Act was brought up to help both the police forces and the government by identifying terrorism in certain crimes.
